Youth Olympic Games mark highlight of the Junior season

Lausanne 2012

Berchtesgaden (RWH) The Youth Olympic Games will mark the highlight of the 2019/2020 winter season for the junior members of the International Luge Federation (FIL). The season will also include five World Cup races and the 35th Junior World Championships in Oberhof, Germany. The schedule has just been announced by the FIL Office in Berchtesgaden.

The natural ice track in St. Moritz (SUI) will host the luge races for the third Winter Youth Olympics (9 – 22 January 2020), which the International Olympic Committee (IOC) awarded to Lausanne (SUI) back in 2015. The first Olympic Games for junior athletes were held in Innsbruck (AUT) in 2012 followed by Lillehammer (NOR) four years later. St. Moritz will be the first track to host five Olympic disciplines (women’s, men’s, women’s doubles, men’s doubles and team relay).

A total of five World Cup races will take place prior to the Youth Games. The season opener will be held in Park City (18 – 22 November 2019), followed by a double event in Innsbruck (26 November – 1 December 2019). Two more World Cup events will then be held at two of Germany’s artificial tracks, Königssee (2 – 7 December 2019) and Altenberg (9 – 15 December 2019).

After the Winter Youth Olympics, the schedule is rounded off with the World Cup final in Winterberg (27 January – 2 February 2020), which will also serve as the 41st Junior European Championships, and the FIL World Championships (17 – 22 February 2020) in Oberhof.
