FIL mourns the loss of Uwe Reindl

Uwe Reindl sen.

Berchtesgaden (FIL/May 12, 2025) On April 30, 2025, our long-time companion and friend Uwe Reindl passed away at the age of 84. With his death, the international luge community has lost an exceptionally dedicated individual and a universally respected personality.

For many years, Uwe Reindl was the “heart and soul” of the International Luge Federation (FIL) office. With his calm, friendly manner, his humor, and his always helpful attitude, he had a significant influence on the atmosphere within the office. Whether as a reliable contact person in the office, running errands, or as an energetic caretaker, Uwe could always be counted on. His support was invaluable, and we all greatly appreciated his loyalty and his quiet but effective manner.

Outside the FIL, Uwe Reindl was also passionately committed to the sport of luge. He was active for many years as volunteer head of the luge department at the Königssee Winter Sports Club (WSV). In addition, he served as referee chairman at international competitions, thereby contributing significantly to the development and fair conduct of the sport.

“On behalf of the entire FIL family, I would like to express our sincere and heartfelt condolences to his wife Elisabeth Reindl, his son Uwe Reindl Jr., and his daughter-in-law Ingrid. We will honor Uwe's memory and remember him with gratitude,” said FIL Honorary President Josef Fendt.

The requiem will take place on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 9 a.m. in the parish church in Berchtesgaden. The urn burial will follow at 10 a.m. in the New Cemetery in the municipality of Schönau am Königssee.
