The course has been set for the FIL Natural Track Luge World Cup 2023/2024. The International Luge Federation FIL has approved the racing calendar for the coming season.

Umhausen Finale 2023

Umhausen remains a hotspot for natural track luge also in the upcoming season 2023/2024

Berchtesgaden (FIL/07/06/2023) The FIL Natural Track Luge World Cup starts with a premiere: On December 16th and 17th, a World Cup race will be held for the first time on the new track in Kühtai (AUT). A special feature of this track is that it is initially iced and used as a competition track, after the World Cup the ice layer will be broken and the track will be used by holidaymakers as a leisure toboggan track for the rest of the winter.

After the turn of the year, the second stage is scheduled on January 6th and 7th in Laas/Lasa (ITA). After Greta Pinggera retired, Nadine Staffler takes over the role of the local hero on the 2022 European Championship track.

The third World Cup is on the program in Umhausen (AUT) from January 18th to 21st. At the same time, the only eliminator (formerly the pursuer) will also be held on the demanding "Grantau-track". For the first time in over 10 years, local hero Thomas Kammerlander will no longer be at the start of his home race, the reigning overall World Cup winner ended his career at the 2023 season final in Umhausen.

February begins with a highlight for the natural track athletes: after the World Cup on February 1st and 2nd in Jaufental/Val Giovo (ITA), the hunt for medals on the "Tonnerboden-track" begins immediately afterwards. The 30th European Championships in Natural Track Luge are scheduled for Saturday/Sunday 3rd/4th February. After the World Cup premiere last season, Jaufental/Val Giovo is the venue for title fights in the general class for the first time, following the 2021 Junior European Championships and the Junior World Championships in 2022.

In mid-February (15th-18th) the FIL World Cup in natural track luge will be hosted in Romania. The fifth stage and the World Cup final will be held in Vatra Dornei.

“The racing calendar promises an exciting season, because right at the beginning we are celebrating a World Cup premiere in Kühtai. In addition, we saw at the World Cup premiere in Jaufental in January 2023 that the time lags there are always very tight. After the retirements of Thomas Kammerlander, Alex Gruber and Greta Pinggera, we are all excited to see who will follow in their footsteps,” says FIL Natural Track Director Andreas Castiglioni.

Junior World Championships in Winterleiten

The Junior World Cup in natural track luge starts at the end of December 2023 in Winterleiten (AUT), after Ulten/Ultimo (ITA) and Latsch/Laces (ITA) the final follows at the end of January 2024 in Umhausen. The highlight of the season for the young athletes are the Junior World Championships from February 9th to 11th in Winterleiten.
